A clean wiped impression in which the fine mesh of lines evokes a darkened stable interior lit from two sources: the light of the lantern, which is reflected in the faces of the shepherds, and a hidden source of light which silhouettes Joseph and reveals the Mother and Child. (Boston 1969, no. 37)
