1606-1669

Orchard with Barn

17th century
Etching on paper.
91 x 160 mm
RvR 323
Notes
Etching by unknown pupil of Rembrandt.
Plate reduced [from state I (91 x 205 mm)]. (White and Boon)
From the supposed signature P.D.W. noted by Seidlitz only the letters P and D can be distinguished but they are in reality part of the vegetation in the right foreground. The style of the print differs from the authentic de With prints.
An attribution by de Vries (in "Oud Holland" 1883 (I) p. 300) to Jacob Koninck cannot be accepted (White and Boon).
According to Hind probably by Pieter de With. (Hind)
Gray watercolor (?) added bottom left.
