The bridegroom, Thomas Taylor, is a sansculotte with posteriors formed of a syringe, his body is a mortar, from which issues a pestle supporting a bonnet rouge. His arm is made of two medicine-phials. On the wall behind the altar hangs a picture with caption "Shrine of equality", showing figures with coronets lining up to be guillotined.
