Eight crank-operated, wood-encased orrery slides from a set of ten, nos. 6 and 8 lacking. The brass discs hold small, hand-painted glass inserts representing the planets, sun, stars, earth, and zodiac signs. Driven by brass cranks with wooden handles, the discs rotate, demonstrating the planets orbiting around the sun and show various phases of the planets. The slides were designed to be used in the gate of a magic lantern slide projector.
One slightly smaller, un-numbered slide shows a trapeze performer. This slide is stamped: From McAllister Mfg. Opticians, 49 Nassau Street, New York. The other slides are unidentified, though likely by that firm.
