Summary
Collection of 224 engravings and engraved illustrations from various works illustrated by Thomas Stothard, including: a series of 16 stipple engraved illustrations for John Bunyan's Pilgrim's progress, engraved by Joseph Strutt and published by John Thane, London, 1788-1793; 8 engraved illustrations and title pages for Hume's History of England (London : R. Bowyer, at the Historic Gallery, 1806); 12 engravings by James Heath to illustrate the collected works of Edmund Spenser; 5 stipple engravings by Bartolozzi illustrating John Milton's Paradise lost; 9 engraved illustrations for Bell's "British Theatre"; as well as several miscellaneous prints illustrating the works of Shakespeare, Sir Walter Scott, Samuel Richardson, and various other authors included in James Harrison's "Novelist's magazine" (London : Harrison & Co., 1780-1788); also included are two portraits of Stothard: a soft ground etching by William Daniell after George Dance, and an engraving of Stothard after a portrait by George Henry Harlow.
