Provenance
Monastery of Saint Michael (Dayr al-Malāk Mīkhāʼil); found in 1910 near the village of Hamuli, Fayyūm Province, Egypt, at the site of the Monastery of Saint Michael; purchased in Paris in 1911 for J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) from Arthur Sambon, a dealer acting in behalf of a consortium of owners including a certain J. Kalebdian; J.P. Morgan (1867-1943).

Manuscript miscellany in honor of SS. Michael and Gabriel Archangels; written and illuminated at the scriptorium at Touton, the Fayyūm Province, Egypt, between 892 and 893.
Roughly a sixth of leaves have sewing repairs.
Colophons: 1) fol. 50r: Original donation, second donation, and memorial in Coptic: By Theōdrï; originally to the Monastery of the Holy Virgin St. Mary at [...]; then to the Monastery of St. Michael near present-day Hamuli; memorial for the donor's wife and children (unnamed); 2) By Iōannēs, the cantor, brother of Deacon Mina, of Touton; AM 609 (August 29, 892-August 28, 893).

Written area ca. 271 x 189 mm. Divisions: Ekthesis, reddened enlarged initial (Touton style with reddened budded diple in column a and reddened boelus in column b, bur reddened zeta-shaped coronis at fols. 11v, 12r, 25r and 48v) setting off paragraphs.
Script: Upright (titles and colophons right-sloping). 10 lines = ca. 81 mm
Superlineation: Non-standard. Punctuation: Raised reddened dot in conjunction with a space; reddened colon (or several dots) followed by reddened space filler at ends of paragraphs. Tremas.
Collation: Signed on first and last page of the quire, top inner margin. No quire ornaments, monograms, headlines or catchwords.
Scribes: Iō(annēs), ?Petros.
Decoration: frontispiece, headpieces, tailpieces, paragraphus signs, signatures and page numbers, extended letters. Colors: dark reddish orange (Centroid 38), moderate yellow (87), green (chemically altered).
