Made for Sir William Porter of Lincolnshire, England, his arms (sable, three bells argent) and motto (aultre ne veul mes) appear often in the manuscript; owned ca. 1556 by Gerald, Earl of Kildare (1525-1585); later by Elinor Hilborne and Thomas Haughton, of Haughton (Shropshire); given ca. 1840 to Lady Harriott Frampton, of Moreton, Dorset; bookplate of James Frampton; sale by Sotheby's (London, July 3, 1899, no. 1650) bought in; Mrs. Fetherstonhaugh-Frampton sale by Sotheby's (London, Feb. 26, 1900, no. 819) to Pickering; bought (Mar. 1, 1900) by Richard Bennett; Catalogue of manuscripts and early printed books from the libraries of William Morris, Richard Bennett, Bertram, fourth Earl of Ashburnham, and other sources, no. 94; purchased by J.
