Executed for a man named Peter, possibly Cardinal Pierre de Foix (1449-1490); a 17th-century inscription on fol. 2 indicates ownership by Charles Le Gouz Morin; ex libris inscription in red ink of Jacques de Alberte, abbé de Santa Chiara (Naples) with date 1541 on first flyleaf; engraved bookplate of Joseph Smith (ca. 1682-1770), British consul at Venice, Collection; his sale, London, Baker and Leigh, 25 Jan. 1773; engraved bookplate of Dr. Charles Chauncey (1709-1777) (sale, London, Leigh and Sotheby, 15 April 1790), no. 2936); bookplates pasted within covers; Alexander Douglas, Duke of Hamilton Collection (Hamilton Palace Library, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland) (The Hamilton Palace Libraries, Catalogue of the Hamilton Collection of Manuscripts, London, Sotheby's,1882, no. 320); sold privately in 1883 with the Hamilton Collection to the Royal Museum of Berlin; resold with a portion of the Hamilton Collection returned from the Altes Museum in Berlin (London, Sotheby's, May 23, 1889, lot 80) to T.M.
