Notes
Associated with the color-field movement of the 1960s, Dzubas created large abstract paintings characterized by floating shapes of vivid color with soft, feathery edges. He usually prepared his paintings with sketches in Magna acrylic (his preferred medium) on small canvases. Pastel studies with rows of color samples, such as the present one, are unusual in his production and may have been made after the paintings. Two of the four sketches on this page relate to existing paintings, Accord and Entrance, both of 1970.
