Published probably ca. July 3, 1798, the date of Washington's appointment as Commander-in-Chief. Cf. Sonneck-Upton, p. 173.

In caption is mounted portrait of Washington (after Joseph Wright) slightly oval, apparently taken from engraved title-page of Hewitt's New Yankee Doodle. Legend: Behold the Chief who now commands!
