At the bottom of p. 4, Mortier de Fontaine has written out the missing music, and added the following note: "Nota. Les 6 mesures manquant à la 1ère page, ainsi que les 8 autres manquant à la seconde ont été notées par moi d'après les souvenirs (peut-etre peu fidèles) de Madame veuve Kohlreif, de qui je tiens ce manuscrit, offert par le soussigné à Monsieur Davison. Londres, 22 Juin 1859 Mortier de Fontaine."
Bound in front is an autograph letter signed from George Grove, dated [London], 2 February [1895], to Mr. [Louis Thomson] Rowe, saying he had "bombarded the Mendelssohn people as to Kohlreif but without effect," explaining the significance of the abbreviation "H.D.m" that Mendelssohn wrote on many of his manuscripts, etc.
