One leaf (2 p., numbered 23-24 and corresponding to p. 225-230 of the first edition) was added to this collection as the gift of Edwin J. Beinecke in January 1955. It has been accessioned as MA 1582.
Stevenson began working on the Weir of Hermiston in 1892; he laid it aside and took it back up in 1893 and again in 1894. This manuscript probably dates to 1892; he dictated much of the later drafts to his amanuensis and step-daughter Isobel Strong.

Summary
An unfinished draft of the novel, containing the end of chapter 4, most of chapters 5-7, half of chapter 8, the whole of chapter 9, and material extending beyond the printed version. Written on the rectos and some versos of 44 leaves (of five different paper stocks), and with autograph corrections and revisions throughout.
