18th/19th-century gilt-stamped black straight-grained morocco (34.5 x 22 cm), sewn on 5 supports by Roger Payne (note on second front fly leaf: Bound by R. Payne). Plain paper pastedowns and fly leaves; decorative endbands; gilt edges.
Inscriptions/Markings
Hand decoration: Contemporary Italian white vine illumination with gilt initials and flourished byzants and armorial in bottom margin (leaf [2]/1r) with major initials illuminated in a small/tight white vine style on scalloped blue ground; rubrication of minor initials unrealized. Red scroll flourish around colophon and line drawing in the shape of a glider (leaf [30]/8r). Annotations: No marginal notations in text.
