18th-century quarter green calf, with green mottled paper sides, over paper boards (32 x 23.5 cm), sewn on 4 supports. Marbled paper pastedowns and endleaves, with plain paper endleaves; green edges.
Inscriptions/Markings
Hand decoration: Contemporary French rubrication, alternating red and blue initials, red paragraph marks, L-brackets, and underlining, and yellow capital strokes; major initials gilt on red and blue ground with white highlighting. Canon woodcuts (leaves [2]/1v-2r) hand-colored in pale wash. 4-leaf vellum quire added after quire [2] with manuscript text for canon of the mass. Annotations: No marginal notations in text. "S Genovese virigins" added to calendar on 4 January in a contemporary hand. A few pen trials in bottom margins throughout, with several bottom margins torn away (leaves b2 and H1).
