19th-century English blind- and gilt-tooled full brown goatskin over heav paper boards (39 x 29 cm), sewn on 6 supports by Riviere & Son. Marbled paper pastedowns and endleaves, with plain paper endleaves; decorative endbands; gilt edges.
Inscriptions/Markings
Hand decoration: Contemporary illumination, gilt initials on red/blue/green ground with penwork decoration; primary initial with white vine decoration and border, armorials in wreaths with white vine surrounding (leaf a1r). Annotations: Contemporary marginal notations in several hands, sporadically throughout text, mainly highlighting keywords or subjects.
