Notes
By the late 1880s, charcoal was Degas' preferred medium for studies of nude models; he repeatedly explored certain figures and poses in groups of dynamically interrelated drawings. In this sheet a ballet dancer lifts her arms to adjust her bodice; a clothed figure in the same pose appears in a number of the artist's pastels from ca. 1897.
