Notes
Tehran-born and Brooklyn-based artist Amighi is primarily a sculptor, whose work mixes references to Middle-Eastern and Western cultures. Often inspired by architecture, her sculptures combine glass, steel, mesh, and jewelry chains, with great attention to effects of light and shadow. Emperor's Headdress belongs to a series of drawings made after sculptures of imaginary headdresses, inspired by headpieces and garments worn during solemn or festive processionals. The precision of the drawing--underscored by the use of graph paper--belies its fantastical subject.
