Notes
John Newman is best known for sensuous sculptures combining a variety of materials. He is also a prolific draftsman whose drawings relate closely to his work in three dimensions. This sheet shows two studies for a sculpture (possibly the same one), one sketchy, the other illusionistic. Newman often uses drawings such as this to explore qualities of surface, depth, and scale.
