Notes
Andrea Bowers is a contemporary artist and activist who works in a variety of media, including drawing, installation, and video. She is most recognized for bringing attention to socio-political issues through her art. In her labor-intensive photorealist drawings, Bowers reproduces details of newspaper photographs and other documents related to various political causes. The present drawing depicts a passage from a love letter written by anarchist and feminist Emma Goldman at the beginning of the twentieth-century. The vulnerable and emotional character of this excerpt point to the difficulty of applying one's political ideals to one's personal life.
