Notes
Arguably the most famous living Latin American artist, Botero achieved international recognition in the late 1950s. His style, which has remained constant throughout his career, is characterized by figures with comically exaggerated volumes and proportions. His subjects derive primarily from everyday life although Botero also devoted important series of works to politically charged topics such as the Columbian drug wars. The present drawing of a plump little girl combines sweetness, sensuality, and caricature in a manner typical of Botero's art.
