Notes
Title "Misproportion" from item, second title devised by cataloger.
Two drawings on single folded sheet comprising two leaves removed from a sketchbook.
Summary

Drawing at left of folded sheet is a graphite sketch for a cartoon poking fun at women's fashions, showing a small woman walking to the left, her hands in a large muff and her head engulfed in an enormous bonnet; a man in cape and tophat stands behind her, facing the viewer as he watches her pass. A variation on this design was published as one of a series of six plates after Crowquill entitled The Misses (London : H. Grellier, 1830) with caption "Mis-Proportion / These are Fashions Freaks ...". Drawing at right hand of sheet is a graphite sketch touched with wash of an infant, seated and facing the viewer, with a frilly ribboned cap on its head.
