Summary

Drawing shows a scene in which a young and fashionably attired man in late 17th century(?) dress sits bound to a chair, actively restrained by another young man who kneels behind him pulling a rope. In front of him stands a young woman who gestures towards him with one hand as she holds a handkerchief to her face with the other; an elderly woman sits in a chair behind her, consulting with a clergyman who stands at her side and gestures towards the young woman who stands with her back to them. Other figures in the background include a heavy set man with a cane in each hand, a man holding a scepter topped with a crown, and a seated man at far left who is engaged in writing by a window.
