Notes
Vignettes like this scene appear at the end of each canto of Giovanni Battista Albrizzi's edition of Torquato Tasso's Gerusalemme Liberata. This design was used as the tailpiece to Canto VIII in the first edition and was reengraved with a number of small changes for the second. The present sheet is a reworked counterproof of a counterproof (currently in the Hermitage, St. Petersburg) pulled from a drawing preserved in the Biblioteca Reale, Turin. --Exhibition Label, from "Tiepolo, Guardi, and Their World: Eighteenth-Century Venetian Drawings"
