Notes
The drawing was given to Sir James Thornhill (Woolland, Dorset 1675-1735 Stalbridge, Dorset) while in the McCrindle collection, though Alan Fausel considers it untypical of the artist's work and suggested an attribution to as yet unidentified Venetian artist of the late seventeenth or eighteenth century (email correspondence, 4 February 2009).
