Summary
Egbert Haverkamp-Begemann argues that the present sheet is in the style of Jan Breughel the Younger, rather than a work by the master himself. Breughel spent time in Italy, where he met Anthony van Dyck and Lucas de Wael. His output as a draftsman included subjects related to that of the present sheet, including landscapes with figures, waterscapes, and village and rustic scenes.
