Notes
This type of drawing with different solutions of gray wash on a textured white paper is typical of the artist's late work from the 1880s through 1910 when he frequently returned to the Loire valley. He abandoned the preliminary sketch in graphite and worked in pure wash, often sending the results to family and friends.
