Description

A. E. Popham connected the current study to Parmigianino’s etching of the same subject, though the drawing and the print differ in composition.1 The differences are quite extensive, suggesting that the Morgan sheet belongs to an early stage in the design process. Popham rightly noted that the guard at lower left in the drawing is unmistakably the same (in reverse) as the one in the etching.
