Giacomo Torelli
1608-1678
Sea with Ships seen through a Rocky Cavern
12 1/8 x 16 1/2 inches (309 x 420 mm)
Gouache on paper.
1982.75:635:2
Gift of Mrs. Donald M. Oenslager, 1982.
Notes
This may be a scene design for the "Orphee" performed at Le Théâtre Royale de Bourbon in Paris in 1647. Charles Errand worked with Torelli on this production, which was a failure. Much of the scenery was used in 1650 for "Andromede".
