Notes
The album includes drawings mostly by Princess Alice, but also by her siblings Princess Helena, Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, and Louise, Duchess of Argyll. Many of these informal pen drawings are signed or monogrammed and dated, with the location and sometimes the sitter noted. The album includes a few more finished watercolors as well as several brief missives from Alfred and Louise, among others. The contents date from 1852 to 1864, and were drawn at royal residences in England as well as in Berlin, Potsdam, Darmstadt, and Baden. A pencil view of Montreux is signed by Theodor Rabe, perhaps the son of German artist Johannes Rabe.
Inscriptions/Markings
The majority of the drawings are signed and many are dated.
