Description
The drawing entered the Morgan’s collection with an attribution to Aliense. Though plausible, this identification has been doubted by Bert Meijer, who believes the study to be by Palma Giovane (email to Morgan curators, 2010). Roger Rearick had previously acknowledged the stylistic proximity to Palma, although he believed, on balance, the drawing to be by Aliense (oral communication with Morgan curators, 2001).
