Virgin and Child and Standing Infant (St. John the Baptist?). Verso: Two Standing Draped Male Figures

8 3/16 x 9 7/8 inches (209 x 247 mm)
Black chalk on paper; verso: black chalk, pen trials in brown ink.

Gift of Janos Scholz.

Description

Though poorly preserved and somewhat uninspired, the drawing may well be by Fra Bartolommeo himself, despite affinities with the work of Mariotto Albertinelli. A drawing with two studies for a standing Saint Sebastian and a further one of two standing nude boys, both in the Uffizi, are comparable in the handling of the black chalk (inv. 364F; von Holst 1974, 312, no. 44 and inv. 361F).
