Inscribed on verso in pen and blue ink at upper margin, "di Giuseppe Maria Mitelli ed e scritto di suo pugno anche io / che segue a basso"; in red chalk, possibly by the artist, "Se voi saper che son, oserva quale / Serraschiere son io, come tu vedi / Che guerra piu non voglio e questo credi / Che battaglia non voglio e questo credi".
