There are two other versions of the present composition, the first in the Ecole National Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris, and the other in the private collection of H. Bowring, London.
Inscriptions/Markings
Inscribed on the verso, at lower left, in an old hand, in black chalk, "Rembrandt"; at lower right, in a more modern hand, in graphite, "St. Jerome in a cave".
Watermark: Fleur-de-lis in shield, surmounted by crown, above "4" and letters "WR", (Strasbourg lily). Lead white on drawing is visible on beta radiograph.
