Inscribed on slip of paper pasted on the verso, at upper left, in an old hand, in brown ink, "Vestiges des acqueducs de Frescati"; below this, in graphite, "P" and "33" (encircled); at lower left, in graphite, "AN" and "No ["o" in superscript] 844"; at lower right, in an eighteenth-century hand, in graphite, "Asselyn"; and below this, in graphite, "D 30805" (i.e. Colnaghi stock number).
Watermark: Grapes (similar to Heawood, no. 2232: Paris, 1643); cluster of grapes, short, hollow stem, centered between chain lines.
