Inscribed in pencil at lower left, "Villa d'Este Tivoli - drawn on the spot"; at left margin, "Terminations of the clusters in / shadow were soft and fluffy like / these"; inscribed on verso of lining apparently in Palmer's hand, "Liesseux [six], Normandy - Old Town from Paris to Honfleur".
